Akhand Chandi Palace is a beautiful place to be visited. It was constructed in the middle of the 18th century. Constructed over the tinsel town, the palace has a view from the above of Chaughan, Sui Mata Temple, HariRai Temple, Rang Mahal, Lakshmi Narayan Temple, and BansiGopal Temples.Originally, the palace was built at some point in the supremacy of Raja Umedh Singh as a housing structure. This white building is having an amazing architecture and art.
As the time passed, the royal palace was rebuilt, revamped, and customized by the Mughal and the British emperors. As they modified the palace, they also brought in the Zenana Mahal, Darbar Hall, and quite a few specimens of the Mughal architecture. It is a beautiful combination of both – their creativity and designs. You must visit this once.
The building has a roof of green color, which distinguishes the majestic building from other spaces of significance in Chamba. The complete place is divided in 3 main segments along with slanting roofs helping in smooth coming off the snow. It is having amazingly adorned arc styled windows and convoluted glass and wood work in the inner walls. It is surrounded by amazing gardens and fountains.
In 1958, the palace was transferred over to the government of Himachal and has now been transformed into a district library and a government college.
