Ambazari Lake, Nagpur Overview
Nagpur is known for its pristine lakes and one of them is the beautiful Ambazari Lake. Located on the south-western side of the city, this lake is one of the eleven lakes present in Nagpur. The lake derives its name from the fact that it is surrounded by mango trees and the word Amba means mango in Marathi.

History of Ambazari Lake
It was in the year 1870 that the Ambazari Lake was constructed by the Bhonsle dynasty. The main objective to build this lake was to provide enough supply of water to the residents. For around 30 years from the year of its establishment, the lake served well the purpose for which it was constructed. However, with constant pollution, the water in the lake become unfit for drinking and for other domestic use. For this reason, the supply of water to the city from this lake has stopped in recent times. There is also a splendid garden located next to this lake, the Ambazari Garden, which was constructed in 1958.
