The Assam Museum is also popularly known as Rajyik Museum. It lies in the middle of Dighali Pukhuri tank, which lies in the quaint town of Guwahati.

Assam State Museum was built in 1940 as at the time of the British colonization in India. It is know to have been established by Kamarupa Anusandhan Samiti, the research society of Assam, as a means of educating the public of the history, sculptures, and skills of the people of North East India. This Museum was built during the reign of the president Kanklal Baruah, after which it was taken over by the state immediately after the president’s death in the year 1953.
Assam state museum has a wide range of ancient artifacts, sculptures and belongings of the 5th-12th century. It also has recent belongings and ancient art from the World War II.

About the museum
The Assam museum has several segments and every single part enormously displays various periods of the past. One of this segment is a Manuscript collection that shows old manuscripts such as Assamese,Tai, Myanmarese.
The fun unique part of this section is the
fact that these manuscripts can be found on the bark of old trees that are present in the museum.
In the arms and ammunition section you will find a huge amount of swords and armors from the Middle Ages to the Mughal age. This section also contains a stack compilation of ammunition from the World War II. The stack of ammunition of the Ahom dynasty is that of the 1200’s making this particular section different from the rest.
The part of the museum that is regarded as before history terracotta has a compilation of sculptors from the past and also terracotta objects that can be spotted in different parts of India.
