Adjoining the Bahu Fort compound is the beautiful garden, Bagh-e-Bahu. The garden is home to vast lush green grass, sculpted fountains, stone engravings, a lake and India’s largest underground aquarium. At Bagh-e-Bahu, you get to experience all of this at one place. The garden provides a serene environment for anyone looking for a place to relax.
Expect a huge sign, namely ‘Bagh-e-Bahu’, welcoming at the entrance of the garden, just opposite to the entry of Bawe, home to goddess Kali at Bahu Fort. A plethora of tall green trees line the walkway at the entrance, providing a magnificent first impression of the Bagh. The garden is terraced and you can find beautiful flowers covering each level. Stay till late evening to experience the lights making the waterfall even more enchanting.
The topmost level houses the lake, giving it a view to behold. The stone walkways lining the lake are a treat to the eyes along with the colourful flowers making the place even more scenic. The waterfall at the end mark for another quaint location at the Bagh. You can also enjoy the water canal running through the garden. The sculptures engraved in stone only increase the aesthetic of the place.
The aquarium at Bagh-e-Bahu is one of the top attractions in Jammu. It holds the record for the largest underground aquarium in the country. It is constructed in a way that the entrance looks like a mouth of a fish and the exit like the tail fin of the same. Enter to explore 24 aquarium caves housing over 400 species of freshwater and marine water fish. The place is also home to a public gallery, a laboratory with state-of-the-art equipment and a museum.
