Barpeta is one of the most popular towns in Western Assam, India. It is a city situated 90 kilometers northwest of Guwahati (over 56ml)
The word Barpeta originates from “Bar” which means big and “Peta” which means pond. Barpeta as the name implies means big ponds. It lives up to its name, most especially in the time of old it was known to be filled with many so many ponds. it is also known as Satra of Assam as a result of the numerous Satra within its environment.
