Chatham Saw Mill, Andaman & Nicobar Islands Overview
Chatham saw mill is situated in Chatham island of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. it is one of the oldest and biggest saw mill in Asia. That’s why it is a great attraction for tourists making it one of the most visited places. It was constructed in 1883 with the soul purpose of providing the saw and timber for constructional works that were happening on the island. It is amongst some of the few mills that provide timbers to construction industries for their versatile use. It is connected to port Blair with 100-meter-long bridge.
It is considered as a historical attraction as it has been standing for over a century and still is producing. The tourist that visit the place due to historical attraction can also go to museum that is inside the mill and get a deeper understanding of its roots along with geology, topography and biodiversity that is present on or around the island. Though the mill is quite noisy tourist attraction as it is still in operation so if you want a serene environment you can skip it as you like.
