Khimsar Fort Overview
Khimsar Fort, owned by the Karamsot Dynasty, was founded in the sixteenth century. It was built by Rao Karamsiji, who was also the founder of Jodhpur and the son of Rao Jodhaji. The fort is located in Rajasthan, in the Nagaur district, near Khinvsar Village. On the eastern boundary of the Thar desert, its location can be traced as mid-way from Jodhpur and Nagaur. Owing to its striking beauty, the Khimsar Fort is now a heritage hotel with parts of it still occupied by the successors of the royal family. The grand fort offers a captivating experience to the guests. Due to its astounding architecture and grandeur, it is one of the most beautiful and scenic forts and palaces in the heritage-rich state of Rajasthan.
The Heritage hotel continues to be run and managed by the royal family. Even the staff members belong to the family of royal courtiers who once served the royal family with loyalty and pride for generations. Aurangzeb, the Mughal emperor once resided in the fort. The great wars and battles are depicted on the walls and turrets of the fort. The Department of Tourism, Government of India awarded it the “Grand Heritage Award for Excellence” because of its splendor and marvelous design. This grand monument in a fairytale-like state of Rajasthan was one of the highest chieftain of the Marwar region. The fort also served as a head house for the Rathors of Karamsot. The family shifted to the fort in the eighteenth century, only after a separate wing called ‘Zenena’ or ‘the ladies wing’ was constructed. Later, in the 1940s, Thakur Onkar Singh constructed a regal wing for himself in the fort. This magnificent fort in Nagaur is an embodiment of the brave rulers who have fought several wars and battles in their lives with pride, dignity, and honor. Having been converted into a heritage hotel, this fort is one of the most luxurious and premier hotels in Rajasthan.
