Lamayuru Tourism
Halfway towards Kargil from Leh on National Highway 1D, otherwise known as the Srinagar-Leh highway, is located a small village of Lamayuru. The village is located just 100 km ahead of Leh, which is right after Fotu La, the highest pass on the Srinagar-Leh highway. Lamayuru is also known as the ‘place of freedom’. It is home to one of the oldest and largest monasteries in Ladakh. For everyone who is looking for a place away from the chaos of the modern world, Lamayuru is the place to visit. While Lamayuru is known for a massive Tibetan Buddhist Monastery, it is also famous for the moon-shape carved landscaped on the mountains nearby. The landscape provides a sense of tranquillity to anyone beholding the sight. Small protrusions looking like the moon could also be found in a nearby lake which has since dried up. People visit this place for its beauty and surreal landscapes.
