Lodhi Garden, Delhi Overview
Lodi Garden has a historical and natural attraction and is among best tourist places in Delhi. Lodhi Garden, situated near the Khan Market in New Delhi, is constructed during the Lodhi era in the 15th century. Covering around 90 acres, Lodhi Gardens is the resting place of the two popular leaders Sikander Lodhi and Mohammad Shah. Lodhis were the rulers of Punjab and north India in the 14th and 15th centuries. Currently, the Archeological Survey of India is responsible for the preservation and security of the area. The garden is an ideal destination for tourists and Delhiites. In addition to being a tourist spot, it is often considered as the best area for a morning or evening walk. The serene surroundings and a pleasant atmosphere around the lush-green garden fill you with positivity.
Located right in the center of the Lodhi Garden is the big dome (Bara Gumbad). The Gumbad served as the main entrance to the three attached mosques at that time. Near the central courtyard, tourists can spot the remnants of the huge water tank. Lodhi Garden also houses a Shisha Gumbad, which has graves. However, the people resting in these graves are not known.
Since only a small portion of the ancient architecture has remained, Lodhi Garden is considered an essential area for preservation. Mohammad Shah’s tomb located in the gardens is so clear that it could be spotted from the road as well. Overall, the site is a wonderful example of the Muslims and Hindu style of architecture. Earlier, the park was recognized as Lady Willingdon Park. After India got Independence, it was renamed.
