History of Lonavala
The twin hill stations of Lonavala and Khandala was discovered in 1871 by the Governor-General of Bombay named Lord Elphinstone. In medieval times, the region was under the rule of Yadava dynasty and in later years, it was conquered by the Mughals. Given its strategic importance, the region played an important role in the history of Peshwa and Maratha Empires.
