Mullayanagiri, Chikmagalur Overview
The highest peak between the Nilgiris and Himalayas being 1930m above sea level, Mullayanagiri has attracted tourists from all over the country. It is covered by rugged rocks and vast grasslands, which is a treat to, nature and adventure lovers.
The peak serves as a trek path as well. Starting from Sarpadhari, the 4km long trek trail is an experience of a lifetime. If you’re still not amazed by the place, you will when you know you can also engage in activities like mountain biking and road biking. The peace and tranquillity of the place away from the cacophony of the city in the lap of the majestic peaks is what visitors enjoy the most. Along with this, there is a temple of Lord Shiva on top of the peak and several small caves below it. From the top, you can get a glimpse of the western ghats on a bright sunny day.

Mullayanagiri Trekking
Trekking is what Mullayanagiri is famous for. You can explore and satisfy your adventurous self in this challenging climb starting from Sarpadhari. You need to take prior permission from Chikmagalur Forest Department in order to do so. Baba Budangiri is the highest point in Karnataka. Mulayanagiri is the lower point, few kilometres away from Chikmagalur. It can be easily identified by the temple on its top and is visible after around 20 minutes since the start. Streams, small caves, grasslands and the Nandi statue are what you will expect then.
You must have prior experience of trekking and know about the do’s and don’ts thoroughly. It is not an easy trek to start your trekking journey, so it is advised to have prior experience. After the 8-hour long trail, you will see the temple made in the name of Lord Shiva. You can get a sight of Baba Budangiri on a clear day as well. The picturesque view from the top is one to behold and remember for a lifetime.
