Murudeshwar Temple, Murudeshwar Overview
This beautiful shrine, located in Karnataka, is devoted to Lord Shiva, the god of destruction. This temple has Lord Shiva’s second largest statue in the globe, and you are filled with amazement by the pure magnanimity of the statue in the amazing temple. This temple is constructed on three sides of Kanduka Hill, encircled by the Arab Sea. The entrance to the primary temple, also called the’ gopura,’ stands at 123 feet and from the top of the gopura, you can see the amazing perspective of the Shiva statue.
This temple’s entire
surface is covered in one of the most complex and detailed sculptures you’ll
ever see in your life. The temple compound was redesigned with the exception of
the sanctum sanctorum that maintains its initial shape till now. The temple’s
main deity is the Sri MridesaLinga, supposedly part of the initial AtmaLinga, a
component of Shiva.
The image of Shiva here is quite spectacular and is certainly going to keep you
very fascinated and calm with its spiritual aspect. This beautiful sculpture is
an ideal homage to a God who reverences him in the far and wide territories of

Legend of Murudeshwar Temple
Legend suggests that the Atma Linga or Shiva’s soul has been the key to inventiveness and immortality in the Hindu mythology. Demon King Ravana chose to buy it for which he prayed to Lord Shiva very devotionally. Shiva gave him the Atma Linga, pleased with his utmost dedication, provided it must not be put on the floor before he had to enter to his kingdom Lanka. But Lord Ganesh and Lord Vishnu tried to put Linga on the floor, which was ultimately fixed and made immovable. Ravana, who was angry with him, attempting to ruin the Linga,only succeeded in spreading the Linga to many locations throughout the region, one of them being Murudeshwar.
