Nainital Zoo, Nainital Overview
If you are a wildlife lover, Nainital Zoo is one of the best and most popular tourist attractions for you in Nainital. Also known as Pt. G.B. Pant High Altitude Zoo, this zoo is home to a plethora of wildlife species. This is also apparently the only zoo in the entire state of Uttarakhand. Located at the height of 2100 metres, the zoo offers favorable conditions of stay to birds and animals of different species.
The hill on which this zoo is located is called Sher ka Danda. It was established in the year 1984 and was opened to visitors for the first time in 1995. Uttarakhand is home to several rare and endangered species of flora and fauna. This zoo was set up to provide conservation to these species.
You can see animals like hill fox, gharial, Siberian Tiger, Snow Leopard, and other endangered species of animals in this zoo. Many animals in this zoo have been adopted by animal organizations and societies that work for animal welfare.
The zoo also organizes several programs for children. These events are directed towards building the knowledge base and making our future generations aware of the biodiversity of our country.
How to reach: It is easy to reach the zoo by road, and you can take a taxi from the Tallital Bus Stand. Some people also prefer taking a small trek to the zoo from the central city.
Entry fee
You will have to pay an entry fee to visit the zoo. The fee differs for children and adults and also according to the kind of camera you are carrying inside the zoo. The entry fee is waived off for senior citizens and disabled people.
Timings: The zoo remains open
from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM.
