Nizamuddin Dargah, Delhi Overview
Hazrat Nizamuddin Dargah is one of the popular spiritual places of Muslims. It is counted among the top Muslim auspicious places to visit in Delhi. The Dargah is devoted to the Sufi Saint ‘Khwaja Nizamuddin Auliya’. This holy Dargah receives visitors and pilgrims in large numbers every day. Located in Nizamuddin, Delhi, this spiritual place is popular for the Qawwali sessions that take place in the evening. After the death of Hazrat Nizamuddin, his children took over the management and maintenance of the palace. Dargah Sharif features a beautiful and shining white pearl dome.
Built in the early 13th century, the Dargah Sharif has 2 Minarets and 3 Domes. It holds the shrine of Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya. The area surrounding the Dargah gets its name from the Sufi Saint Nizamuddin. Tourists can find a colorful market in the Nizamuddin West area. Other than that, you can explore many Mughal monuments in this region such as Sabz Burj, Mirza Ghalib’s tomb, Humayun’s Tomb, Barakhamba, and Chausath Khamba.
The complex features an incredible combination of pure white marble and red stone construction. The Dargah is based on the Sufi tradition and it aims to spread the message of love, spirituality, unity, and kindness. The tradition says that all religions must be considered equal. Having said that, people from all races and religions are allowed to pay a visit to Dargah Sharif and pay honor to the shrine of Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya. Built in the complex are the shrines of other popular Mughals including Inayat Khan, Amir Khusro, and Jahan Ara Begam.
Being one of the spiritual places in Delhi, the Dargah receives tourists in the count of thousands every day. Free food service is held at Dargah every Thursday and Sunday, in which, the visitors get vegetarian food. There is also a special Sufi session held at Dargah.
