Further up, the road leads up to the Siachen base camp. It is the highest battlefield in the world. The Panamik village is located on the banks of the Nubra river. The place is famously known for its hot water springs. The place is populated with pashmina goats and bactarian camels, they have two humps and were massively used for transportation on the silk route. The hot springs are decorated with the breathtaking view of the sunlight-covered landscapes. You can bask in the serenity of the green valleys. The best time to visit Panamik village is during the months of September and October. It is during this time that the leaves on the trees turn yellow and red, providing a beautiful season of autumn. Trekkers going towards Ensa Gompa have made Panamik their base. At the village, you can also spend some of your travel budget on some souvenirs like Pashmina shawls, Kashmiri carpets, woollen socks, apricots, apples, walnuts and other Kashmiri and Tibetan artefacts. Public transport is not readily available. Although in times of need, you can expect passing truck drivers and the Indian army to help. Even housing can be a little problem, only places with very basic amenities are available.
