It is a South Goan Beach. It is flanked by Palolem and Agonda. Both the counterparts are more popular than the Patnem Beach. Located at 39 km from Madgaon, the visitors may access the beach quite easily by road. It is widely considered to be a highly tranquil South Goan beach.
The laidback atmosphere comes to the rescue of those who want to get away from the highly active and somewhat noisy North Goan beaches including Calangute Beach, Baga Beach, Vagator Beach and Anjuna Beach. The beach is located in the southernmost taluka and the nearest town is Cancona. Though the Palolem Beach which is quite near from here happens to be a favourite tourist destination, Patnem beach with its tranquil quiet is charming in its own manner.
There are little cottages and shacks at the coastline. Besides the local Goan delicacies such as Chamuca i.e., a mouth watering fish, Vindaloo and various other types of seafood add to the charm of the area. It is a great feeling to lay by the beach and simply relax, doing nothing at all. You may also join various yoga centers either as a student or get trained as a yoga teacher. The water is safe to swim in. and the sunset is beautiful to look at.

The Patnem beach offers you almost all that a Goan beach is supposed to. Besides, it is calm and tranquil as well. You may read, indulge in sports, or enjoy the changing colours at horizon besides the blue waters of the sea. The choice is entirely yours.
There are also yoga and spa retreats. Patnem, with its calm quietude is a perfect alternative to the more noisily active North Goan beaches like Palolem.
Live music is something that you would find almost at all of the Goan beaches. As the Patnem Beach is only at few miles from the Palolem beach, you may reach there only after a short walk. Besides, you may also explore the Colombo beach, once you are at the Patnem Beach. The main road at the beach leading to Canacona is lined with shops that sell clothes, souvenirs etc.

There are a number of shacks and bijou huts at the foreground of the beach. Delicious Goan cuisine is served here. Besides, you may enjoy the Chinese, Italian and Mexican delicacies also. Moreover, the long sandy stretch is also full of restaurants, cafes and local shacks. The prominent ones are Sea Front Restaurant and Bar, Nirvana Café, and Papayas.
Best Time to Visit Patnem Beach
It is in between September to March during the winters when the tourist season is at its peak. It is a pleasant weather unlike the summers that continues in between March to June. But the monsoons in between the June to September make the sea highly rough because of the huge rainfall.
How to Reach Patnem Beach?
Located at the southernmost taluka towards Cancona, the adjacent town, it takes only few minutes to reach the Palolem beach. The highly popular Colva beach is almost 45 km from Palolem beach. As the beach lies in a close proximity to Southern Goa, important Karnatakan holiday destinations and towns can be reached easily from here. These include Ankola, Gokarna and Karwar etc. All of these are located at less than 100 km at NH66.
The most economical manner of reaching Patnem is by state transport bus at Margao Bus Station. It takes just an hour in the bus. The Canacona railway station is also there. Catching an auto rickshaw from the bus station is a suitable option at the Patnem beach though you might be required to change the bus at Kadamba Bus Stand. .
