Pragati Maidan, Delhi Overview
Located on the Mathura Road, Pragati Maidan happens to be Delhi’s most popular venue that hosts conventions and exhibitions in the capital city. It is one of the must places to visit in Delhi to understand latest trends. Being the largest exhibition and complex in New Delhi, Pragati Maidan is spread over 150 acres with 10,000 square meters reserved for the open area. The site is currently managed and owned by the ITPO (India Trade Promotion Organization). The site is especially known for hosting some of the grand events such as World Bookfair, Auto Expo, Delhi Jewelry and Gem Fair, and India International Trade Fair. Overall, 70+ events are organized in Pragati Maidan annually.
Raj Rewal, a popular architect, managed the construction project of Pragati Maidan. Indira Gandhi, the former Prime Minister, inaugurated the venue in 1972 to celebrate technological progress, talent, and 25 years of Independence. Today, this iconic structure houses an auditorium, a movie theatre, and several pavilions such as Indira Pavilion, Nehru and Defense Pavilion, India Pavilion, and more. The exhibition center has a transport service for visitors who cannot explore the palace on foot.
This exhibition center features a well-built road, spectacular gardens, well-maintained lawns, and eateries. The venue has a total of 16 huge halls. The area was designed after 25 years of Independence. Located at a distance of 3 kilometers from Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station, this well-designed exhibition venue accommodates 5 permanent exhibition areas. Amongst all the events organized here, IITF happens to be the most popular one. The exhibition starts on 14th November (children’s day) every year and lasts up to two weeks. Moreover, the venue welcomes over 30,00,000 national and international visitors with 10,000 exhibitors.
Try to schedule a trip to Delhi during the exhibition time and get a wonderful opportunity to explore Pragati Maidan during the event. You will need to pay the entry fee (which may vary depending on the event).
