Qutub Minar, Delhi Overview
Qutub Minar is one of the famous places in Delhi. Standing at a whopping elevation of 73 meters, Qutub Minar is the World’s tallest tower. Even though this second-highest monument in Delhi faced several natural disasters, it still stands intact. Qutub Ud-din Aibak took the construction project of Qutub Minar in the late 11th century. Today, this UNESCO World Heritage monument serves as the popular tourist attraction in New Delhi. Situated in Mehrauli area, Qutub Minar signifies the ancient architecture.
The tower features five storeys, each comprising a balcony. The upper two storeys feature the wonderful combo of marble and sandstone, while the first three storeys are constructed of pure red sandstone. Right next to the Qutub Minar, you will find Quwwat-ul-Islam Masjid (the first Masjid constructed in India). People believe that Qutub Minar was built to celebrate the Muslim victory and the beginning of the Mughal rule in India. This tall tower is one of the most beautiful and well-crafted architectural pieces in the world. Commenced by Qutub Ud-din Aibak, the project of construction was handed over to his successors after his death. The entrance gate to this monument was designed by Sher Shah Suri while the fifth and the last storey were added to the structure by Firoz Shah Tughlaq.
