Most people are unaware of this quiet, stunning hill station of Sanasar. It is popular amongst the adventure enthusiasts as it offers many adventure sports like rock climbing, paragliding, abseiling and trekking.
The story behind the name of the place is linked to the two lakes that can be found here. Sanasar is the quieter side of Jammu and Kashmir. On top of that, it has some stunning landscapes for views. The name of the place is derived from Sana and Sar, the two local villages. The two villages are very careful about not destroying the great landscape around them. Take a good stroll in the villages to see that these are eco-friendly villages. They hold their roots closely but also adapt to modern green techniques. Adventure Activities
Since Sanasar is the aero-adventure-sports capital of Jammu, it is widely popular among tourists. You get many adventure sports options in this place. It is surely a thrilling experience to get to learn and do these activities at such a stunning place. Sporting activities here include hot air balloons, paragliding and rock climbing amongst others.
Paragliding is one of the more popular sporting activities taken up by tourists at Sanasar. Mostly, Tandem Hand-Gliders are found here. These carry both the pilot and the passenger simultaneously. The J&K TDC train people interested in paragliding to ride these before taking flight. With paragliding, you get an exclusive view of the valley.
Hot air ballooning is also quite a popular activity here. In this recreational activity, you get to exclusively enjoy the stunning view of the lush green landscape from a height. It is a preferred sport for photography enthusiasts. You can get mesmerizing pictures of the valley from this height.
Horse riding is another popular activity in the meadows.

Restaurants and Local Food in Sanasar
Traditional Indian delicacies can be found at restaurants in Sanasar. You get to choose from a vast variety of meats, herbs, spices and homemade dairy products on the menu. Amongst the bread, tandoori is the most popular amongst the locals. Even the sweets have a wide variety here from chocolate barfi to sund panjeeri. Don’t forget the famous rajma rice, kalaadi (local processed cheese), khatta meat (lemon cooked mutton) and multiple varieties of pickles like kasrod, girgle, mango with saunf, zimikand, tyaoo, seyoo and potatoes.
Itinerary
One day is enough to get to know Sanasar. Spend your morning paragliding and then move on to hot air ballooning. Later visit the two local lakes after which the place was named and then enjoy the horse riding in the meadows in the afternoon. By the evening you can also visit the Shank Pal and Nag temples in the area.
Get some souvenirs to take back home from the local market and enjoy the delicious traditional food of the area at the local restaurants. Spending one more day at Sanasar would be recommended if you have trekking and rock climbing on your to-do lists. Then you can also take a trip to the small golf course.
This way you can thoroughly take in the beauty of Sanasar. It is not a very big hill station so getting all it has to offer should not be that difficult. You can even travel by foot or get the local cabs.
