Stakna Gompa
20km from Leh, on the banks of the river Indus, is the Stakna monastery. The view from up there is probably one of the most breathtaking views in all of the district.
Far from the typical bright colours of a monastery, this holds a special place for its scenery. Built in the 16th century by Bhutanese scholar and saint Chosje Jamyang Palkar, it got its name by literally translating the shape of the hill it was built on top of – tiger’s nose.
