Talakad is a small village nestled on the left banks of the Kaveri River. The village has been under several kingships such as Hoysalas, Pallavas, Vijayanagar, Gangas, and Cholas. Therefore, Talakad reflects a rich past and cultural heritage.
The town is populated with many exquisite temples and monuments and folklores and legends form an important part of its culture. Talakadu Panchalinga Darshana
Once in every 12 years, during the Hindu month of Karthika, the priests give an opportunity to the local people to explore all the five Shivlingas. Sri Maruleshwara, Sri Muduhuthore, Arakeshwara, Sri Pathaleshwara, and Sri Vaideshwara are the temples that have access and are worshipped during this month. The temples see a huge surge of people during the Holi festival.

Since all the temples in the village have the same opening time at 8:00 AM in the morning, try and cover as many temples as possible in a day. However, make sure to visit the five lingam temples excavated in the town. If you have time to spare from your busy travel schedule, do visit the small village of Somanathapura laying the proximity.
