Temples in Shivagange, Shivagange Overview
The Shivagange hillock itself resembles the form of a Shiva Linga when viewed from a distance, and it also hosts 5 temples. At the entryway, there is a life-sized statue of Lord Ganesha and a few steps above is the Gavi Gangadhareshwara Temple devoted to Lord Shiva. According to followers, the Shiva Linga on the mountain has miraculous properties and if ghee is poured on to it, the ghee will instantly turn into butter.
Another interesting site to visit is the Olakal Theertha, a small hole where you can insert your hand, and if you are lucky you might be able to touch the water. It is believed that those who are able to touch the water will have their wishes come true. On the top of the hill, there are two Nandi holy bulls carved out directly from the monolithic stone. The climb is difficult and strenuous, but the view from the peak is glorious and well worth all the effort. On the descent, there is another small temple called the Paathala Gange Temple devoted to Lord Shiva and decorated with ancient Naga (serpent) statues.
