Thirunakkara Mahadev Temple, Kottayam Overview
Thirunakkara Mahadev Temple is a highly popular shrine of Hindus. Besides, it is one of the great epitomes of the Kerala architecture. The temple is dedicated to Mahadev i.e., Lord Shiva. The establishment of the temple dates back to the 16th century by the ruler of Thekkumkur.
There are numerous beautiful murals that adorn the walls of the temple displaying various of the Hindu religious themes. The festival called Aaraattu is celebrated in the temple for 10 days. There are a number of dance performances by professionals. The dance forms include Velakali, Mayilattom and Kathakali. The tourists, apart from the devotees are attracted to the temple in large numbers during the festival celebrations.
