Tughlaqabad Fort, Delhi Overview
Tughlaqabad Fort is a wonderful example of pure Islamic architecture and one of the best places to visit in Delhi. The site is specifically famous for history buffs, architecture lovers, explorers, photographers, and people who are going on an excursion trip. Established by Ghiyas-Uddin-tughlaq, the fort was built after the Tughlaq empire conquered the Khilji emperor. The entire structure was constructed in the early 13th century. The walls of the fort stand at a height of 15 meters. Initially, it was a 52-gate building. Today, only 13 gates are intact.
Architects used slate, marble, and red sandstone for the construction of the mausoleum. The palace held the grave of a common man Zafar Khan (much before the construction of the site began). This grave could still be spotted in the monument. The Tughlaq dynasty happened to be one of the most powerful and controversial empires in India. The Tughlaqabad Fort is a great way to get an insight into the Tughlaq dynasty and the Royal family. It houses the burial chamber of the constructor of the fort namely Ghiyas-Uddin-tughlaq.
