Stambh is one of the most important establishments located within the premise
of the Chittorgarh Fort. This tower symbolizes the triumph of the Rajput rulers
over their enemies. It was built by within the period of 1458 and 1488 by the
king of Mewar named Rana Kumbha. The main purpose to construct this tower was
to celebrate their victory over the combined forces of Gujarat and Malwa which
was directed by Mahmud Khilji. This work of architecture is tall enough to be
visible from any part of the city.
Stambh is devoted to the Lord Vishnu and its walls and ceilings constitute
detailed carvings and figurines of various Hindu Gods. The tower also stores
weapons and musical instruments used by the Rajputs rulers. The highest storey
houses a figure of Padmavati who is a Jain Goddess. Also, the word Allah is
inscribed in Arabic in the 3rd and 8th storey of the tower. The magnificent

Intricate Carvings on
The highest floor of the Vijay Stambh house a
few slabs on which is inscribed the names of the rulers of Chittor with their
respective instances of bravery. This incredible task was completed by Atri,
who was a court scholar, and his son, Mahesh under the direction of Rana
Kumbha. On the fifth storey, the names of the architects are carved, namely,
Sutradhar Napa, Puja, Jaita and his three sons, and Poma.

There are nine floors in Vijay Stambh and every floor has a balcony. The tower
is 37.19 meters tall positioned on an elevated base which is 3 meters high. A
staircase of 157 steps is built inside the tower and this can be used to reach
