“The hidden lake” of Ladakh, or otherwise known as Yarab Tso, is the town’s best-kept secret. The lake is considered sacred is located in the Nubra valley in the village of Surmur, approximately 15 km from Diksit, Leh. The only way to reach the lake is by trekking uphill for 20 minutes. The enchantingly beautiful view of the lake is complemented by its crystal clear water. Set against the banks of the lake are the rocky areas. While the trek might seem a bit too difficult for some, the beautiful sight of the lake makes up for it.
Yarab Tso is considered to be an extremely religious sacred spot. For the locals, it is one of the holiest lakes in the valley and also one of the highest. Washing your feet or swimming in the lake is not advisable. What you can do is sit by the lake, breathe in the unpolluted serenity of the environment and listen to the rustle of the fluttering prayer flags against the wind in the background. Watch the crystal clear waters feed into the calmness of your soul.

The most perfect weather to visit Yarab Tso is considered to be from July to September.
How to Reach Yarab Tso
Through trekking and walking is the only way to reach Yarab Tso. The whole trek takes about 20 minutes from the village Panamik village near Surmur. You can hire a local cab from Leh.
